Year 6 have been excellent science embassadors today setting up different experiments to fill the rest of the school with awe and wonder.  There was such a buzz and excitement on the playground.  Apologies for any children returing home smelling of vinegar or a slightly interesting shade of red from the 'lava'.  They have had an amazing morning and really shown how mature they are whilst inspiring the rest of the school!

Welcome

Welcome back to a new year.  I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday for the start or an excellent year.  The Year 6 page has been updated with key information for this year and has lots of information about SATs for you to familiarise yourself with.

We will hold a meet the teacher session where you will be able to ask me questions about the year and our exciting Stubbers trip.  Remember at any time this year that if you have any concerns or worries, please feel free to grab me after school or send an email into the school admin which will be forwarded to me.

I'm looking forward to making the most of this final year at Woodham Ley Primary.

H O M E W O R K

A good routine with homework this year is vital because next year at secondary school, the children will receive lots of homework from various subjects. The homework is the children's responsibility so it is important that they complete it as independently as possible. However, should you need any further assistance with completing homework then I am always happy to give extra help and support if needed.

Reading:

Reading is one of the most vital skills a child needs not just through school but beyond.  The best way to support your child's learning journey is ensuring their are reading appropriate books regularly.  I can support with book choices if you are ensure.

It is expected that the children should read at least 3 pages of their reading book at home each day. The children should use google classroom to record the books their are reading.

Once the children have completed their book, they must take a quiz on Accelerated Reader.

Spellings:
Spellings are set  via Spelling Frame. The children should use the Spelling Tiles, Segment Cards, Games and Practice Tests to practise the rules we are currently focusing on in class. We have moved away from traditional spelling tests; we will assess these during spelling lessons rather than a weekly test. Spelling frame also allows you to work on previous spelling rules if you child struggles in an element of spelling.  If you are unsure how to use this tool, please speak with me for advice.

Times Tables:
Times tables and division facts underpin most mathematical concepts within the Year 6 curriculum (and beyond!) so it is important that the children continue to use Times Tables Rock Stars to practise on a regular basis.

Mathletics:

The children will be set one Mathletics task per week to complete. They should also continue to use Mathletics to practise any areas of the maths curriculum that they feel they need more support with.  All practise will ensure they build their confidence in the subject.
