Curriculum Overview 2023/2024
This is the plan for the year's learning to meet the National Curriculum offer for your child.
Spelling
Spelling rules and patterns are taught in school, but Spelling Frame tests will be set to support your child's learning at home. They may also use the games to learn the spellings on this site. Progress on spelling frame will be reviewed regularly, so there will not be a formal 'spelling test' in school. Instead, your child's mastery of a word rule will be assessed in their writing which, after all, is why we learn our spellings.
When the children log onto Spelling Frame, they will select the rule that has been set for that week. Then, they can play various games to practise the rules as well as trying a test.
Reading
Children should read for at least 20 minutes of their reading book each evening and they should complete the Accelerated Reader Quiz when they have finished. The library is open for children to change their books before school and during lesson transitions (just before break for example).
TT Rockstars
Children should use the TTRockstars programme to practise their times tables regularly. Even after scoring highly in the Year 4 Times Tables check, children need regular practise to move knowledge into their long-term memory.
Knowledge Organisers
The minimum knowledge that children need to know for each topic have been put together onto one knowledge organiser. Click here to be taken to the different Knowledge Organisers for our topics.
P.E
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.
Please remember that earrings are not allowed to be worn during PE lessons and tape coverings are not allowed. If your child has difficulty putting their earrings back in, then they are best left at home.
WLPS PE tracksuit is available to buy from Penn Sports.
Times Table Challenge
Each week we take part in the Times Table Challenge! Everyone has begun on Bronze to show they know all of their tables up to 12x12. Here are the challenges to practise (Use the tabs along to the bottom of the Excel document) :

Ask your child to login as usual, then navigate to 'Year 5 Homework'. You may need to enter the class code: INSERT CODE
To read for at least 20 minutes each day, be it supported by an adult, independent or with a sibling.
